Why Your Tap Water Has Low Pressure

Low water pressure is one of the most common calls we get from homes and apartments in Limassol. Sometimes it is a small issue you can fix in a few minutes. Other times it points to a bigger plumbing problem that needs proper attention. Here is a plain-English guide to what usually causes low pressure and when it is time to book a plumber in Limassol.

Why Your Tap Water Has Low Pressure

Common causes of low water pressure

Before assuming the worst, it helps to notice where the problem is. Is it only one tap, one bathroom, or the whole house? Is it cold water, hot water, or both? Does it happen all the time, or only at certain hours? Answering these questions helps a plumber diagnose the issue much faster and often shows whether it is a local fix or a wider plumbing problem.

Water tank and pump issues

Most homes in Limassol have a roof water tank, and many also have a booster pump. Low pressure often starts here. Common tank and pump issues include:

  • A blocked or partially closed tank inlet valve
  • A faulty float valve that does not refill the tank properly
  • Sediment build-up at the bottom of the tank
  • A booster pump that is failing, losing pressure or short-cycling
  • An expansion tank problem in solar water heater systems

Blocked filters or valves

Tap aerators, shower heads and mini filters at appliance inlets get blocked with limescale and sediment. If pressure is weak at only one point, this is often the reason. Unscrewing and cleaning the aerator can restore flow in minutes. Main isolation valves left partly closed after previous plumbing work are another very common cause and easy to fix.

Old pipework

In older Limassol properties, galvanised steel pipes narrow with corrosion over the years. This slowly chokes the flow and reduces pressure everywhere in the house. Replacing sections of old pipework with modern piping is often the only long-term fix and dramatically improves the water supply.

When to book an inspection

If cleaning aerators and checking valves does not help, or if pressure has dropped across the whole home, book a proper inspection. A plumber in Limassol can test pressure at different points, inspect the tank and pump, check for hidden leaks and recommend the right fix. Ignoring low pressure often means missing an early sign of a bigger problem like a hidden leak or failing pump.
